Does the gas grid have a low-carbon future?

What is the future for heat in the UK and how can it be decarbonised? It is a big undertaking: heat represents 47% of the UK’s final energy use, and domestic space and water heating represents 15% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to Labour’s shadow energy minister, Alan Whitehead MP. He said decarbonising heat had been “a thorny issue for some time”.
