Extra interconnectors may not improve security

Interconnectors provide no additional security of supply above 9GW of interconnection, according to figures published in UKERC’s Security Assessment of Energy Futures, published in March (for more discussion of security issues see New Power’s interview with Jim Watson, this issue, p 32).

The probabilistic model used to assess security was run to see the impact of a range of factors on the “capacity value” of interconnection – its contribution to system security.
