Fast-cycling electricity generation ‘a major challenge to gas network operability’

National Grid Gas (NGG) is facing an increasing challenge operating the gas network – and that challenge will grow significantly as the shift to renewables and decentralised generation continues because of the need for fast changes in gas supply to electricity generation plant.

The gas system operator set out that challenge in a document in its Gas Future Operability Planning (GFOP) series that took a deeper look at the issue, which it had already identified as a key driver for the system.
