German link steps forward

Neuconnect Britain has applied for an interconnector licence for a direct link between GB and Germany.

The 1,400MW HVDC connection will comprise two submarine cables with a total length of about 670km. It has a connection agreement at Greystones on the Yorkshire coast (for the GB end) and Conneforde (in Germany).

It received initial approval from Ofgem to be taken forward under a “cap and floor” scheme in January.
