Minister dismisses call to underwrite gas storage

Climate and energy security minister Claire Perry has denied that a direct replacement for the Rough gas storage facility could save customers £16-20 annually. In a letter to the Select Committee on Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, she said that assessment “looked at the impact on gas prices without considering the wider economic cost and benefits (including the consumer cost of any subsidy or financial support)” or the potential cost of distorting the gas market.
