Ofgem fires the starting gun on fundamental reform of network charging

Ofgem has set out plans for a significant code review (SCR) for electricity network charging.

The aim is to make much better use of the network: to reduce constraints, make sure generation connects at the most beneficial voltage and location, speed up connection of distributed generation, and allow for new network uses such as electric vehicle charging. That could mean individual domestic consumers paying more to have a high-capacity connection so they have the option of high usage – for charging electric vehicles, for example – at peak times.
