Republic of Ireland renewables auction planned

The Irish government has announced it will run its first renewable power auction next year after cabinet approval for the country’s new Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS).

This new regime is designed to incentivise the introduction of sufficient renewable electricity generation to meet national and EU-wide renewable energy and decarbonisation targets out to 2030.

The government says the scheme should meet 55% of the country’s electricity needs by the end of the next decade.
