Scottish government to establish not-for-profit energy company

Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon has committed the country to establishing the government-owned, not-for-profit energy company first mooted last year. In a speech at this month’s SNP conference in Glasgow, she made it clear that the entity’s initial role would to compete with other energy providers on price.

However, the company could also branch out into supporting energy generation, providing investment for renewables and becoming involved in district and community heating schemes.
