Small suppliers win a bigger slice

Small and mid-range suppliers were responsible for nearly a quarter of all power sold to domestic customers in 3Q 2017. Big six companies’ share of power sales, on a MWh basis, dropped by nearly 5% on the previous year, from 81.79% of energy sold in 3Q 2016 to just 77.57% of sales in the period in 2017.

Fewer customers want to stay with those large companies: the big six saw their share of meter points fall from 84.85% to 81.15% of the total over the same period.
