Spring statement: decarbonising heat and maintaining infrastructure investment

The government’s Spring Statement punched through the fog of Brexit uncertainty with an eye-catching plan to set out a low-carbon standard for new homes that would rule out new domestic connections to the gas grid.

That would be delivered via new Future Homes Standard, to be introduced by 2025, requiring low carbon heating and “world-leading levels of energy efficiency”. The aim is to at least halve the energy use of new buildings by 2030.
