Three into one: rethinking investment structures

It is time to look again at the way renewable energy project finance is structured, says the Climate Policy Initiative. It says investments are still fundamentally structured as if renewable generators had the same cost structure as fossil-fuelled plant – one that had to take account of the risk of fuel costs changing over the plant lifetime – instead of having most costs up front, with only low and increasingly well-understood operation and maintenance costs over the plant life.
