Winter outlook: comfortable on gas and power

National Grid says the electricity supply margin for this winter will be 11.5%, when considering only transmission demand (its measure in past years).

That is higher than anticipated, because more plants have indicated that they will remain available even though they do not have capacity market contracts. That includes capacity from one CCGT and two biomass conversion plants, plus extra capacity from an existing CCGT, says the system operator (SO), alongside one coal and one CCGT plant that had already indicated they would be available.
