The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into the energy market has swung partly away from examining the issues of wholesale markets and whether vertically integrated companies too much market power, to examine customer issues more closely – such as why customers do not switch and whether incumbent suppliers take advantage of such customers. It is also looking more closely at market rules and whether the way the industry governs itself is a barrier to competition.
