Developers are eyeing up the site formerly occupied by ScottishPower’s 1,200MW Cockenzie coal-fired plant north of Edinburgh. The station closed in 2013, has been decommissioned and is now partially demolished.
ScottishPower has consent for a 1,000MW CCGT at the 50Ha East Lothian site but the Iberdrola-owned company has yet to decide whether to proceed with the gas-fired replacement project.
Meanwhile proposals have been unveiled for what would be Scotland’s first purpose-built cruise ship terminal on the Scottish mainland at the site owned by the generator.
