The UK’s Capacity Mechanism and auction for Contracts for Difference are “prioritising short term gains over long term planning”. The Capacity Mechanism’s (CM’s) outcomes will see pollutants rise, according to an assessment by consultant Ramboll, while the CfD auction would disadvantage projects with extra environmental benefits and those developed by new market entrants. Both issues were raised at the Powergen conference by expert speakers.
