RWE’s coal generation fell from 9.1TWh in 2013 to 4.5TWh in 2014, largely because of the final closure of Didcot A. In contrast, gas generation increased over the period, from 16.4TWh in 2013 to 19.6TWh, which the company said reflected the completion of retrofits at Staythorpe and Pembroke, as well as better market conditions. Overall, UK generation was down from 28.4TWh to 24.1TWh. Renewable generation fell from 2.9TWh to near zero because the company had to shut down its Tilbury plant, which had been converted from coal to biomass fuel.
