As Hinkley Point C finally won approval from the British government in September, two energy experts raised fears it could be out of date before it goes into operation. In a briefing note, Andrew Smith and Michael Grubb (writing in a personal capacity), said the falling demand for power and increase in wind and solar means that by 2030 the latter two sources will meet total demand more often and there will be less need for so-called baseload plant.
