Already, millions of people get their light and power not through a power network from an electricity supply company, but direct from a PV and battery combination. For people who are far from the grid, or where grid-supplied power is intermittent or unreliable, it is a cheaper and greener alternative to kerosene (used directly for lighting or cooking) or diesel power generators.
