Professor Martin Cave is the preferred candidate to be the new chair of Ofgem. Cave was deputy chair at the UK Competition Commission and deputy panel chair of the Competition and Markets Authority where he argued in favour of a price cap. His report to government on markets in the water sector kicked off competition in that utility sector. The appointment is subject to a hearing at the BEIS select committee.

 

Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, has been appointed chair of the Carbon Trust. She is also deputy chair of the Committee on Climate Change.
