Offshore transmission links between the GB and EU markets remain on the EU’s list of “projects of common interest”.
These interconnectors and related development (including strengthening of grids around areas of GB where new links with France and Norway make landfall) are regarded as important to remove constraints and improve competition in the EU’s internal energy market.
Brexit negotiations have given new impetus to plans for an interconnector between the Republic of Ireland and France.
