The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs must take a lead on managing waste in the UK and in understanding how best to manage waste flows. Among other aims, it should provide the waste sector with clear guidance on how much energy-from-waste capacity is needed in England to reach the best balance between exporting waste prepared as fuel for EfW or using it locally. That was the conclusion of the Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in a report on waste policy.
