Rampion ramps up

E.On has placed an order for 116 3.25MW turbines from Vestas – claimed as the UK’s largest single turbine order – for the energy company’s Rampion wind farm, to be built 12km off the south coast of England.
The 400MW project – reduced from 700MW – which won a Contract for Difference in the government’s first CfD auction, will be funded by a £1.3 billion investment from the Green Investment Bank and E.On.
Construction of the onshore substation in Twineham is planned to start in June, closely followed by preparation works for the onshore cable route.
