Scottish Power Transmission (SPT) wants some of the cost of replacing ageing conductors on part of its network to be paid by customers through the so-called Innovation Rollout Mechanism.
SPT wants to replace 50-year old conductors in some parts of its network that have aluminium cores with newer technology that uses composite cores. It argues this would enable the network to carry more power, as required to accommodate more wind from the region, and be cheaper than a wholesale upgrade of the line.
