NuGen has restarted assessment work at Moorside, a 200Ha site north and west of Sellafield, where it plans to build three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors.
Site assessment will take place throughout 2014 and 2015 and should allow NuGen to draw up detailed plans for site layout. The company aims to begin generating power from the plants in 2024. NuGen chief executive Sandy Rupprecht said “This is an exciting phase of NuGen’s Moorside project, and the work carried out here will be vital in establishing the final layout for what will be the biggest new nuclear development in Europe.”
