Swansea gets planning nod but faces contract challenge

A £300 million contract for building parts of Tidal Power’s planned barrage in Swansea Bay has been challenged.
The contract was awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company but Belgian contactors who bid for the contract are said to have used the procedures under EC procurement rules to challenge the contract award.
A development  consent order (DCO) was granted for the scheme in early June.
However, the scope of the development consent order is somewhat less than originally applied for, which means the project is contingent on several other permits.
