A third of major projects due to be delivered by government in the next five years are at risk of failure, according to a report for the Public Accounts Committee produced by the National Audit Office (NAO). Nearly 80% of projects to be delivered by 2019/20 are transformation projects and these “present the greatest risk of failure”, the NAO said, and there are no reliable and consistent measures of success so it is hard to tell whether performance is improving.
