Interconnectors are very useful things and can help reduce the costs of supplying power and balancing the system. But you have to consider what is at the other end. We have several times over the past year rejoiced over a day or more without coal generation on the UK system – or so we think. But it’s not clear that we haven’t been tapping into coal power from across the Channel while we have been congratulating ourselves for our low-carbon credentials.
