UK must protect porpoises from wind farms

The EC has threatened legal action if the UK does not take action to protect endangered harbor porpoises who are at risk from wind and other offshore projects.
In a “reasoned opinion” to the European Court of Justice the Commission said that the UK had to propose protected sites for the endangered species but “Despite a large number of harbour porpoise in its waters, the UK has so far proposed only one small site in Northern Ireland, exposing some of the identified sites to the risk of offshore wind farm development.”
