Some fundamentals of the UK’s retail energy market – including licensed suppliers and central settlement – could disappear, if ideas circulating in think tanks and among regulators come to pass.Reshaping regulation published by the Challenging Ideas group in October, described many of the industry’s “so-called ‘regulations’” as “simply long-standing business practices, accepted behaviours, standards not rules”, with “little to do with the statutory regulators”.
