EirGrid Group has welcomed the decision by officials in the Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland to approve planning permission for the northern leg of the North South Interconnector, a 400kV scheme that links power grids on both sides of the border between the Province and the Irish Republic.
Approval was in line with the recommendation from the NI Planning Appeals Commission, which reviewed the planning applications and carried out a public inquiry into the project last year.
