Tom Vernon had been developing wind and biomass projects for 11 years when he decided it was time for a change. That coincided with the end of a solar cycle. He set up Statera in 2017 with Andrew Troup to deliver flexibility projects in the form of gas engines and storage. “For us it was a question of when, not if, they would be required alongside renewables,” he says.
