There was positive news for supporters of Hinkley Point C, EDF Energy's planned nuclear plant in Somerset, when the EU's Competition Commissioner gave it his backing.
A spokesman for Joaquin Almunia told the Guardian the Commissioner would "propose to the college of commissioners to take a positive decision and in principle the decision should be taken during this mandate of the Commission in October."
